When your body doesn’t believe the story you’re telling your mind

For years, I lived in my head... I'd tell myself all the empowering stories... I rewrote limiting beliefs and used Neuro Linguistic Programming to dive deep into the subconscious layers that drive behavior. It was a powerful tool, and it worked - to a point.

Through NLP, I learned to recognize patterns, shift internal representations, and create new neurological pathways that support change. I helped myself and others rewire the mind and reshape identity.  But there were still moments when I felt stuck... Moments where I could say all the right affirmations and visualize a different future - yet my body told a different story. It held tension.... It shut down in the face of conflict...and it stayed small, even when my mind believed in expansion.

That’s when I realized something profound: the mind might carry intelligence, but the body carries wisdom.

NLP and the Mind 

 NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) is a powerful modality to access the subconscious mind. It allows us to:

  Identify and change limiting beliefs

  Reprogram patterns that no longer serve

  Use language to reshape perception and behavior

  Utilize techniques like anchoring, reframing, and timeline work to rewrite emotionally triggering past events and design the future

And when paired with tools like hypnotherapy, we can go even deeper - reaching the subconscious programming that drives over 90% of our behavior.But here’s the thing: if the body doesn’t feel safe in day-to-day life, no amount of mindset work can fully take root.

Nervous system regulation: The missing link 

 When our nervous system is dysregulated (meaning it's in constant "fight or flight" mode) ,our body doesn’t believe it’s safe to change. We might cognitively understand that we’re worthy, abundant, or free, but our body is still bracing for the next threat.

And you can easily tell if that's the case by your body language, your posture... your breath is shallow, your shoulders are tense, your gut is tight. This is because trauma, stress, and suppressed emotions live in the body. And unfortunately, they don’t respond to logic - which is why mindset work alone can only take us so far.

Coming home to the body 

The journey of transformation isn’t just about rewriting the story in your mind- it’s about helping your body feel safe enough to live that story.

How?

Through practices that regulate the nervous system and create embodied safety:

Stillness: moments of presence where you simply feel your breath and your body

Gentle movement: yoga, walking, stretching to reconnect with physical sensations

Being in nature: time in nature can be the most potent medicine for our nervous system.

Breathwork: the bridge between mind and body, helping discharge stored emotions and reset the nervous system  Breath is the one tool that follows you everywhere. It is the key to unlocking the wisdom of the body and integrating the mindset shifts you’ve worked so hard to create.

Transformational breathwork is more than just deep breathing - it’s a somatic practice that uses conscious, connected breath to unlock stored tension, suppressed emotions, and energetic blocks held in the body. By activating the parasympathetic nervous system, breathwork helps shift you out of survival mode and into a state of inner calm and safety. This allows the body to finally exhale what it's been holding onto - wether it's stress, grief, fear, even past trauma - without needing to “think” your way through it. As the breath softens the edges of resistance, it creates space for healing, clarity, and embodiment... It’s the bridge between the stories in your mind and the sensations in your body - helping your whole system align in a way that mindset work alone can’t always reach.

Why both matter

 You don’t have to choose between mind-based techniques like NLP, coaching or talk therapy and body-based healing. In fact, the deepest transformation happens when you use both.
